RULINDO MARKS INTERNATIONAL YOUTH DAY, URGES YOUNG PEOPLE TO SEIZE OPPORTUNITIES AND WORK HARD.
Rulindo District has marked International Youth Day with a call on young people to make the most of available opportunities, work hard, develop their skills and avoid behaviours that could undermine their health and future.
The celebrations were held in Burega Sector under the theme “Building Youth Capacities to Join Available Opportunities.” International Youth Day is observed annually on August 12.
The event began with an exhibition showcasing initiatives and businesses run by young people, including agricultural and handicraft projects. Northern Province Governor Maurice MUGABOWAGAHUNDE and other officials commended the youth for their efforts to create jobs and contribute to local development.
In her welcoming remarks, Rulindo District Mayor Judith Mukanyirigira highlighted the numerous opportunities available to young people in the district, particularly in agriculture, livestock farming and tourism.
She encouraged young people to take advantage of the district’s fertile agricultural areas and favourable conditions for livestock farming.
She also pointed to tourism and cultural opportunities, including the Ikirenga Museum in Rusiga Sector, which promotes knowledge of Rwandan culture through activities related to art, crafts, traditional performances and other cultural practices.
The Mayor further encouraged young people to form cooperatives so they can pool resources, share skills and work together to create sustainable businesses and livelihoods.
